Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Samsung LNT4665F 46 1080p LCD HDTV

I searched for a flat-screen tv for a couple of months, and finally chose the 4665. I chose the size of the TV based on my room, and decided 50 was too big and 42 too small. This left me without a decision on plasma vs lcd, which was ok with me. Plasma has more basic issues, and going LCD was not a sacrifice - except I had yet to see a LCD with black blacks, so I was not sure what I would see in the 46" range.
As for price range, I decided that I was going to buy the tv that I was happiest with. It was not that I have unlimited budget, just that I wanted to make sure that I would going to be completely satisfied with a 2-3k purchase. I really only knew about the plasma tv's in 42" 720p, so I had a lot of research to do to understand what to buy.
After reading hundreds of reviews and going to several stores to comparison shop, I was basically down to three Samsung models. I was considering the LN-T4665F, LN-T4661F and the LNS4696. Going straight by the specs, the 4665 looked to be the best because of the 15000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. With this in mind, I was confused to see that BestBuy has the 4696 in their Magnolia section and not the 4665 - my only guess is that it is because the 4665 does not have a cableCard slot.
After lots of playing I was more than happy with each of the TVs, and my choices were narrowed down by wanting more hdmi's right on the set, wanting the best possible contrast, and the glossy screen on the 4665. I have seen several complaints about the glossy screen, however this was a selling feature for me - for the same reason that I ordered a MacBook Pro with the glossy screen - I just think that it makes moves look better. I can deal with reflection during the day to get a picture that I am happier with when watching a movie at night.
I must say that I am extremely impressed so far. I have not had a single image problem yet, and the setup was clearly the worst part of this tv. All-in-all, I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.
So here's my brief summary of the high/low points:
Pros:
1. (3) HDMI inputs
2. Excellent contrast - forget the numbers, as they are fiction - the blacks are black
3. Glossy screen - movies spectacular - Toy Story is mind-blowing!
4. Weight - This is one of the newer, lighter sets
5. Price - Not that this set was cheap, but I liked this over the Sony and would have spent another $1,000 to get a comparable Sony - and I hate the glass around the Sony's
Cons:
1. No cableCard slot - really only matters if you want to mount it on the wall
That's how I see it. I give this TV my highest endorsement.

For people looking to step up to full 1080p resolution in a 46-inch flat-panel LCD, Samsung's 2007 model LNT4665F is a good choice. Besides offering full 1080p resolution the LNT4665F also features a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for rich blacks and subltle tecture display, an 8ms response time panel for smooth motion, hidden side speakers, an NTSC tuner, and 3 HDMI ports.
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.
High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

Compared this model to last years, both sitting side by side at big box store and about $100.00 difference. New model well worth the extra dough. Both have 120hz, but this model has 50,000 contrast ratio vs.20,000, speaker system was better but still not the best. 4 HDMI (3 in back one on side),nice remote but I linked to my dish one. The base will swivel about 30-40 degrees either way. The onscreen set up was very easy and designed for your own taste in picture and sound. My one gripe is that it only has 1 anolog and 1 composite audio out,no fiber optic to hook to my reciever. The composite sounds good, but a audiophile might notice a difference. Still. a great set for the money.

I got this TV a little bit over a month ago and have put in about 100 hours of viewing I would guesstimate. After that time I would say the TV has an incredible picture. Some people said the color variation was a little off but I haven't seen this. I did setup the custom picture setting by using the THX video optimizer included with newer pixar movies and star wars films. This made a big difference in overall picture quality and was very easy to do. The brightness of this display is impressive even when first turned on. The CCFL backlight seems to come to full brightness very quickly and evenly distributes the brightness extremely well. Color representation appears to be dead on with all types of media (cable, blu-ray, dvd, ps3, xbox). The motion plus feature is great when watching sports but can cause some juddering effects while watching non-sport content. The response time for video games is also a plus with no visible judders but this is with game mode turned on. The tv really does have the deepest blacks I have ever seen on a LCD panel, especially one that is not LED backlight. I have options turned on to increase blacks and increase the degree of difference between light and dark areas of the screen. Blu-rays look absolutely stunning and upconverted DVDs look pretty good. I use an external audio system so I can't really comment on the sound of the TV but I would imagine it's on par with other TVs. All in all it is an awesome TV with a very solid build and great looks. The TV has a lot of inputs which is a plus and the TV guide is great (if you would use it). The only other thing I would like is to see the TV with a glossy display to see if the color pops even more. I would definitely recommend this TV but would also recommend taking some time to setup the picture settings and experimenting a bit to see what looks best for the type of content your viewing.

The product arrived on time from Unbeatable Sales through Amazon. It was easy to assemble and works like a charm. I attached the arm to a metal stud with self tapping metal screws and it is strong and secure. The AVF NXL003PB is supporting a 19" Sharpe Aquos TV with a weight of ten pounds. There are many different mounts available on the net but this one has clean lines, safety features and holds the wires within the arm and out of the way. I am pleased with this purchase and recommend it for sure. Thank You!

Samsung UN55B7000 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Review

Samsung UN55B7000 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was a committed DLP fan before undergoing a conversion experience on Friday April 17th. I had planned to replace my Samsung DLP with a Mitbushi DLP or LaserVue. In the final hours, I just couldn't go through with it.
A major Los Angeles vendor set up a display with the UN55B7000 sandwiched between a LaserVue and a Kuro 151. The results were pretty plain to my eyes. The Luxia pretty well crushed both of them. The cult of Kuro will denounce me for heresy and blaspheme, but this is what I saw. About 1 hour of fiddling with the settings on LaserVue did not change the situation much. The Kuro was locked in at calibrated settings which the employees would not allow me to change. Evidently, it was fully tuned up. Once again, this left me with the impression that a fully calibrated Kuro is an over-rated beast indeed. No wonder Pioneer quit the market.
The bottom line: I bought this unit the next day. It took about 2 hours to tune up after I took it out of the box. [Use the natural color setting. Customize motion smoothing to 7 for jitter control and 7 for blur control, or shut it off entirely] Since then it has been pretty astounding. Unbelievable color. Unbelievable reds. Unbelievable contrast ratios. Unbelievable black levels. Very bright. Generates no perceivable heat. Does not get hot. The detail and sharpness and depth of image is truly astounding. I have never seen anything that can compare, and I have been shopping for several months now.
Cons
I am still questioning the merit of the 120Hz motion smoothing technology. It does weird things to slow motion instant replays. It does stranger things to 24fps movies. Seems to work best with live actions sports and HDTV programs shot on digital. You can always turn it off. Blu-rays seem more natural with the technology switched off. Ultimately, Blu-Ray looks magnificent either way.
Advice
A word of advice for the first reviewer and everybody else. You should never, never, never use the speakers on your HDTV. All HDTVs are equipped with pathetic 10 watt reference speakers that stink. All HDTV owners should invest in some sort of home theater surround sound system. It doesn't have to be that expensive. Even a $300 Home Theater in a Box will make a world of difference.

LG 42LH30 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

LG 42LH30 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been researching 40-42" HD TVs for months, looking for the ideal match for my needs that fit my budget of under $1,000. I looked at plasmas, 120Hz LCDs, 40", 42", Sharp, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Vizio, Westinghouse, and LG.
I finally found it - on sale for almost two-hundred off (exactly eight-hundred-and-nine dollars). Would still be a great value at a thousand dollars.
I'd rather have too much control than too little with my electronics. The 42LH30 delivers all the control I want and more, but it also provides several nice presets for the type of content I'm watching (movies, sports, games, standard). It also lets me build 2 presets myself for exactly what I want. I can be picky or I can be lazy and still get a great picture for any situation.
The 50,000 dynamic contract ratio and 5ms refresh speed make for a superb picture/performance combo.
I was very close to going with a 120Hz 42" Vizio. They have been getting decent reviews. When the LG 42lh30 went on sale, it was a deal I could not refuse.
Some things I really like.
1) Outstanding picture (no compromises with colors)
2) Great performance (sports and movies don't judder at all so far)
3) Energy Star (several low power modes - I love flexibility)
4) Lighter than most (easy to hang on wall - I use an articulating arm)
5) Anti-glare awesomeness (I have lots of windows in my 3-seasons room)
6) Outstanding PC screen (when I just have to surf on the 42")
7) Upconverting DVDs look phenomenal (blu-ray player is next purchase)
8) Sound is more than acceptable on TV (I usually output audio to my Home Theater system if I will be watching for more than a few minutes)
Things I would change:
1) Only 3 HDMI ports (Fine for me now with cable box, DVD player, and PC)
2) I'd prefer a matte black bezel instead of a gloss finish
3) Maybe add an SD-card reader (my DVD player has SD and USB reader, fortunately)

Well, the digital transition just wasn't all it was cracked up to be, so I finally bought a new TV.
This TV has a stunning picture at a great price. Easy set up with clearly labeled slots at the back for the various inputs, and easy on-screen controls pop up when you need them.
The size is just right even in a big room if you want a more traditional TV feel, rather than a *monster TV.* I'm delighted with the picture and the sound. DVD's are gorgeous on this screen, and plain vanilla TV is fun to watch again. If you're a first time buyer, you'll be thrilled. If you're adding a small TV to a guest room or exercise room, I think the picture and sound quality is great, and the price is good, too.

8ms response time
One of the most important features for an LCD panel is the pixel response time. Response time refers to the amount of time it takes a pixel to "refresh" itself to go from being active to being inactive, (ready to be re-activated). The lower the milliseconds, the faster the response time. A very fast 8ms gives you smooth-motion action scenes.

Whereas blue and green shaded areas of the picture are washed out on conventional screens, wide color enhancer lets you experience more brilliant colors. Simply imagine a wider range of colors than you ever thought possible.

The Wireless causes the picture to delay for at least 180ms, your surround reciever needs to be able to delay or it will look like a bad synch'ed movie. I used this mount to mount a 20" TV/DVD on a patio wall. It was easy to assemble and mount. Adjusted easily to hold the TV securely. The only thing that did not work was the plastic pieces used to cover the power cord and antenna cords. They will not stay in place. I used cables ties to hold the cables in place. I like the way it swivels. Makes it easy to adjust TV to face wherever the viewers are sitting.

Sanus SC1A-B1 Adjustable Tilt Ceiling Mount for 10" to 26" Displays (Black) Review

Sanus SC1A-B1 Adjustable Tilt Ceiling Mount for 10 to 26 Displays (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After scanning all the usual web sites for a quality mount, I settled on the Sanus for two reasons, prior Sanus purchase and lowest price available. Im finishing my basement and since I had access to the floor joists above, it was rather simple to build some additional bracing for the mount prior to drywall installation. This mount is sturdy and is well made with a nice finish. 4 lag bolts secure it to the cieling attached to the floor joists above (dead center) and to additional bracing I installed for my 32" LCD. Prior to mounting, I made a cardboard mock up of the tv and attached it to the mount to insure clearance once the tv is mounted. If you dont use a mock up, your tv may be too close to the wall to be able to rotate and tilt. One word of caution, even if you mount in the corner of a room and can access the butt joist and cross joist you will only have 3 of the bolts in wood unless you sanwich another board to allow for all 4 bolts, this obviously would require framing access. On the positive side I believe 3 bolts would hold a tv up to 30 pounds without any problem.

I picked up this TV from Circuit City just before Labor Day. It is basically the same spec-wise as the 650 series. The only differences are 1 less HDMI port (3 instead of 4), a contrast ration of 40,000:1 rather than 50,000:1 and no infolink. For those who don't know, Infolink allows you to hook up the internet to the back of your tv via an ethernet jack. You are then able to pull up news, weather, and stock info from USA Today. This is all it lets you do though. Infolink does not allow you to download firmware, view web pages or anything like that. This is a great TV. 120Hz is amazing. It almost make it seem like the characters are right there in the room with you when you are watching blu-ray movies. The quality picture is great, the menu system looks nice and is easy to use, and for those who like lots of control over picture settings, to get their picture just right, this tv has a ton of different adjustable setting options, allowing you to adjust the backlight level, the black level, 120Hz processing level, gamma, white space, color space, color, contrast, brighness, sharpness, defeatable edge enhancement, and more

MIMO UM730 USB Powered 7 Swivel LCD Screen Mini Display With Built in Webcam, Microphone and Speaker Output
Average Reviews:

I'm really happy with this little guy. It makes a nice second (or third) monitor without taking up space and being very easy to install. It was especially cool to have this as a second display on my laptop
The beauty here is that you don't need to fiddle with extra video cards. You just plug it in via USB and you're set.
I'm running Windows Vista on my desktop and laptop, and it installed without a hitch... although it was not immediate. Windows Vista found the driver online (automatically) so it took about 10 minutes before I was able to use it (yeesh). Still, not having to install anything from the disc was great, and the install process is painless.
The device looks great on a desk. The stand is very stylish.
The display is super sharp. 800x480 on something this small is quite a treat. I had to increase the font size of my IM client to be able to read it, but that was fine by me.
It's a 7" diagonal, which is about 6" x 3½". With the base, it stands about 8½" tall and is about 4" deep. You can also remove the base, and mount it to just about any compatible frame or hold it in your palm I suppose.
Video and graphics are very sharp, although I can't recommend this for high-quality video as the refresh rate (over USB) is just too slow. If you're watching YouTube it will be fine.
Whoever designed the packaging definitely deserves a raise, while the person who wrote the included manual needs to be fired. The manual is ugly and full of translation errors, but really you won't need it.
The built-in webcam works as well as any other webcam. I haven't tried the mic or headphone jack yet. Note that this model does not have built-in speakers.
The device driver lets you easily rotate the display (and physically, you just turn it, the stand supports it just fine). The driver also lets you set the display to "Mirror" mode which mirrors your existing monitor (and changes its resolution to 800x480).
There are three drawbacks:
The device requires TWO USB ports to function. It's awesome that this doesn't need AC power, but be ready to give up two USB ports.
If you want to use the microphone or headphone jack, you'll need to plug in two more cables -- one for the mic and another for headphones. The data is NOT carried over USB as I would have imagined. I think this is pretty lousy but perhaps there's a good reason.
The driver installed two extra processes that must run for the display to work, called DisplayLinkManager.exe and DisplayLinkUI.exe. Together, these take 24 MB of RAM. In my book, that's acceptable. Whatever that software is doing should be off-loaded onto the hardware.

Sharp LC52E77U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black Review

Sharp LC52E77U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At least for now this TV seems like the low price leader among new 2009 52" sets. I am very happy with my purchase after 2 weeks of ownership. I am watching it without any custom tweaking at all and blu-ray looks great, and ATSC digital broadcast reception via a RCA ANT1500 Large Multi-Directional Digital Flat Passive Antenna (White) is excellent too.
I bought this sight unseen because the price was right and it seemed to have the important stuff and not the frills, which was just what I wanted. Also previous models of the Aquos line got decent reviews.
This is my first large LCD so I don't have much to compare with. The features seem to be just a somewhat more mature version of last years features which is great if you don't want the dubious advantages (and expense) of things like 240hz mode, LED backlighting or ultra-thin screen.
The built-in sound is decent with hidden, downward pointing speakers and I use it for live TV (ie News and Sports) but for movies I have it connected to an AV surround amp.
Looks great mounted on the wall (nicer than on the stand).
Pros:

- 10-bit screen
- non-glare screen
I have it next to large window and although you can certainly see the light reflected, it is a kind of matte look not a sharp reflection. And the brightness of the screen can overcome whatever reflection there is except in dark scenes.
- 120hz mode
I really don't see a lot of difference so I tend to leave things in the regular movie mode, even for baseball
- good response time
subjective, nothing to compare
- good black
subjective, nothing to compare
- plenty of connections
- can custom label the on-screen menu inputs
well, it's important to me :)

Cons:
- no PIP
I don't care
- no DLNA/Internet connectivity
I'm connected to a MediaPC so this would be redundant except for firmware upgrades which have to be done via a USB port (not sure if end user can do that)
- the USB port is good only for service, not, for example, loading home pictures - again with a MediaPC it's not needed.
The delivery via Amazon/CEVA was by a couple of very nice guys who brought it in, unpacked it, put it on the stand (which I later removed) and turned it on, which was exactly what I wanted and expected. Hardwood Ebony 56" Spinning Media Storage Tower Review

Hardwood Ebony 56 Spinning Media Storage Tower
Average Reviews:

I've had this DVD shelf for 1 1/2 years. It's been great and is holding up well. Only complaint is that after tons of spinning it (once in a blue moon) seems to get at "the end" and you have to spin the other direction--again, very rare. Other than that I would have given it 5 stars.

Peerless PLAV60-UNL(P)-S Universal Articulating Wall Mount for 37" to 60" Displays (Silver) W/ Vertical Adjust Review

Peerless PLAV60-UNL(P)-S Universal Articulating Wall Mount for 37 to 60 Displays (Silver) W/ Vertical Adjust

The Peerless "articulating" mount (PLAV 60) is perfect for a corner angled mount, for a heavy, 52" inch Sony Bravia flat screen TV. The TV appears to float in air, angled in the corner, no visible sign of the mounting bracket. This mount allows various placement options for meeting the wall studs, and adjusts to every possible angle for viewing the TV, as well as flat to the wall, or can extend out into the room. It has an adjustable forward tilt option. Plus, it can be leveled, easily, after it is mounted. Super strong and incredibly well designed.
