(More customer reviews)I've been researching 40-42" HD TVs for months, looking for the ideal match for my needs that fit my budget of under $1,000. I looked at plasmas, 120Hz LCDs, 40", 42", Sharp, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Vizio, Westinghouse, and LG.
I finally found it - on sale for almost two-hundred off (exactly eight-hundred-and-nine dollars). Would still be a great value at a thousand dollars.
I'd rather have too much control than too little with my electronics. The 42LH30 delivers all the control I want and more, but it also provides several nice presets for the type of content I'm watching (movies, sports, games, standard). It also lets me build 2 presets myself for exactly what I want. I can be picky or I can be lazy and still get a great picture for any situation.
The 50,000 dynamic contract ratio and 5ms refresh speed make for a superb picture/performance combo.
I was very close to going with a 120Hz 42" Vizio. They have been getting decent reviews. When the LG 42lh30 went on sale, it was a deal I could not refuse.
Some things I really like.
1) Outstanding picture (no compromises with colors)
2) Great performance (sports and movies don't judder at all so far)
3) Energy Star (several low power modes - I love flexibility)
4) Lighter than most (easy to hang on wall - I use an articulating arm)
5) Anti-glare awesomeness (I have lots of windows in my 3-seasons room)
6) Outstanding PC screen (when I just have to surf on the 42")
7) Upconverting DVDs look phenomenal (blu-ray player is next purchase)
8) Sound is more than acceptable on TV (I usually output audio to my Home Theater system if I will be watching for more than a few minutes)
Things I would change:
1) Only 3 HDMI ports (Fine for me now with cable box, DVD player, and PC)
2) I'd prefer a matte black bezel instead of a gloss finish
3) Maybe add an SD-card reader (my DVD player has SD and USB reader, fortunately)

Toshiba REGZA 47ZV650U 47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black Review

(More customer reviews)Ordered on Monday night and received on Thursday with FREE shipping from TigerDirect! The box showed a weight of 50 lbs which is pretty light for a 47" flat panel. The picture and colors are really excellent. I'm too cheap to spend $300 on a Blu player but Time Warner HD and standard DVD's look very nice. Can I say the image is better then an LG, Sharp, Samsung etc?? I think with any one of those brands, I'd probably be saying the same thing. Toshiba quality is hard to beat and I really wanted the USB/SD card slot for showing pictures. I've played MP3's from my thumbdrive and even viewed some AVI files. The JPEG picture display from my memory stick was excellent but their 'browser' seems to be a little buggy because now I'm having some trouble trying to get it to recognize the image files again.
PROS:
Not too heavy
USB/SD card slot (for JPEG, MP3, AVI etc)
4 HDMI
Swivel stand
Beautiful colors & picture
CONS:
may need a firmware update for the picture browser
this is not a 'narrow bezel' model

6-1-09: I'm a bit disappointed because the picture viewer from an SD card or USB flashdrive still does not work. I've contacted Toshiba and they say they are 'still working on it'. If you go into the store to buy one of these, take a thumbdrive (or SD card) and test this out first.

(More customer reviews)Very happy with this TV I have only had it now for 2 days. It is a the best LCD TV I have watched. Even 480i SD looks stunning thanks to the perfect pixel HD engine in this beast. The only con I can say so far is when an Ipod is hooked up it is very hard to pick out the songs. and I havent figured out playlists. But its a small objection compared to the tons of pluses of this TV. I have gotten tons of compliments on it from every friend that has seen it which is cool. I really am impressed in this TV.

LG 37LG30 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this TV for over a week now. This is my second HDTV LCD panel but my first in a larger size.
This unit packs a lot into a nice package for a really nice price. If you're looking for something just one notch below premium (i.e. a great set with great value) then buy this set. Don't be thrown by the price; this TV looks great and performs superbly.
720p at this screen size is perfect. 1080p below 42 inches is wasteful feature bloat that you don't need to pay for. High Def channels look phenomenal on this set. XBOX360 over component is terrific. My HD feed is fiber optic. I have not tested over-the-air reception of this unit yet.
Standard Def (regular TV) is very good compared to what I've seen on other sets in stores and at friends' houses. The internal signal up-converter is solid. DVD over component hookups looks very nice.
Display adjustment options are extensive. Some tweaking is needed out-of-the-box but this is very easy to do, and you can look online (AVSForum is great) for help in this arena.
ClearVoice sound (emphasizes dialogue over sound effects & music) is a great option and works well.
The internal speakers are surprisingly decent if that's all you have. They have very little bass, but the mid-range sound is fairly full. We have a small 2.1 speaker system that we will use, but I haven't yet felt compelled to hook it up while we get the sighting and wiring runs finalized.
The biggest problem I had with TV was getting the stand attached. Once I got that sorted out, the rest of setup was a breeze.
I paid more money than this set is listed for here, and I'm still thrilled with my purchase. That should say a lot.

Philips 52PFL7403D/27 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I just bought this tv and had it installed yesterday! I was unsure wheter my TV rack would hold it (it was build to hold a 42"), but it's doing just fine! This TV actually feel almost as heavy as my 2007 42", which I suppose is due to new materials used.
The instalation is a breeze. It comes with a connections guide (in case you need one), and taking it out of the box couldn't be easier. You might think that getting a 52" tv out of the box might be something short of a suicidal thing, but it's actually very very easy! The whole box comes out from the top, leavint the TV sitting neatly on it's stand on the floor, ready to be picked up and be placed wherever.
After you plug it in, a settings assistant comes up, and helps you set up the picture the way you like it, without messing with numbers or complicated settings. You just look at which of the 2 pictures shown you like better, and select it. Do this 5 times, and you're set. Off course, you can edit all the little details later.
Installing all the channels took around 2-3 minutes, and I have about 200 channels, between digital and analog. No issues here.
It's also nice and fast to change channels. Like that. Some TVs take a long time to change channels, don't know why.
The picture is GREAT. If you've never seen the image of a 1080p 120hz TV before, check it out. Watching a HD movie on this is as good as it gets, and in my opinion, the quality beats other more expensive brands. Another nice feature is that the speakers are all in the back, so you don't see them, but they actually sound as good as if they were right there. Again, not sure how they do this.
All and all, very happy with this TV. Recommend for anyone who wants a nice movie experience at home, or enjoy playing Tennis with their Wii, and always complain that 42" "just isn't enough" :)
