Dynex 32" Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV Review

Dynex 32 Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This 32" Dynex HDTV has been a great performer and makes for a perfect television for a small/medium sized room. The picture clarity is impressive and there has been no blur/ghosting or artifacts while watching television, watching movies, or playing console games. The picture is bright with good contrast (can change these settings in the menu if needed), and black appears black. It also has good viewing angles, as compared to a similar sized (and more expensive) Samsung tv that you have to practically sit in front of to get a clear picture. As with most LCD tv's the sound is average and acceptable, however you'll want to hook it up to your stereo system to get good quality sound.
The only annoyance was taking it out of the box and having to screw the base to the t.v. (no screwdriver needed, they are hand screws). The setup was easy, and the remote is user friendly. It comes with component and audio cables, and of course batteries for the remote. The extra HDMI and audio/video/headset ports on the side come in handy. As with any brand there's always bad apples in the bunch, this review is based on a unit that was thankfully perfect out of the box. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the t.v. base doesn't swivel, a minor thing but if you are used to a swivel base that could get annoying. It can be scary to purchase an off-brand name, but this is one case where buying a budget t.v. ended on a good note. If you want to save even more money, buy a set of rabbit ears to plug into this t.v. and enjoy the free HD stations in your area.

2 months after receiving this TV the screen has gone black. Samsung instructed us to ship it to a service repair center and shipping is the responsibility of the customer. I called UPS and the cost to custom-pack a 32" televisions is 120 $. I called Samsung to request a box to ship it in and they re-iterated, shipping is the responsibility of the customer - but would send me a return label. So now we have an 800 $ television that's going to cost 120 $ to pack for warranty. We've only had it two months. I see from another reviewer that sending it Samsung is no guarantee the television will come back any time soon.
On a related note - up until 2008 Samsung's 32" televisions received free in-home repair service. As of 2009 32" is now considered "small" and must be shipped to the manufacturer for service.
Great TV just don't throw away the box and if it breaks take a deep breath and don't bother calling Samsung for sympathy.
Update September 17, 2009: It's been a month and we still don't have our TV back. We've called Samsung every week since they received it. Today we were told the replacement part would take too long to arrive and they would begin the process of approving a replacement television. This process entails Samsung repair shipping the TV to Samsung corporate. Once corporate receives the TV they can can process the replacement. If our TV is no longer available they will offer us something "comparable". This new phase should take "less than a month".

I've never owned a Samsung product, and have normally purchased Sony products. However, due to price increases by Sony, I decided to consider options. My satellite installer stated that Samsung & Sony were considered to be two of the highest rated HD t.v.'s.
I have nothing but highest praise for my Samsung! Extremely sharp color, focus, and excellent surround sound!
The only problem I had was the shipping company was two days late on the deliverey date.

Samsung LN32A330 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I researched LCD TV models and prices for over a year, checking them out in a local store. When I saw this Samsung, I jumped at it:
* Price was right, under $700
* Great picture with super low refresh rate(to minimize the blurring you see on older sets).
* The one in the store ran much cooler than older models. This was important as I wanted to put the set inside my entertainment cabinet.
* Great tuner: My old analog TV could only pick up 2 channels via the antenna. (I mostly watch DVDs.) The Samsung picked up over 20 digital channels flawlessly, just using a $20 RadioShack inside antenna! I don't need cable!
* The picture is simply stunning when you are viewing a hi-definition broadcast (1080i). I gasped when I first saw it.
Only downside: You can't use a VCR with this set because it doesn't have the outdated composite video input that VCRs require, only the newer component and HDMI inputs.
I've had this set for a couple of months and I love it!

I own a 56 inch Samsung DLP (have for some time now) and love the thing. So when it was time to get a flat screen for my bedroom (the old CRT just had to go), I went right to Samsung. My needs were 32 inches, 2 or more HDMI inputs, at least one analog composite input, at least one analog component input and a QAM tuner. I looked at a few models from other vendors (the usual suspects, Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, etc., excluding Visio, not a chance that junk enters my home) and for the most part they were very similar in the features they offered. This model was a little better than some of the others in the same price/size range and it had some extra cool features (ability to display images from camera) and given my past experience with Samsung, I purchased this model.
I mounted the TV to the wall (using a Cheetah) and cannot be more pleased. The QAM tuner found all of the cable channels that were available (although it would have been nice to just have it hunt for digital channels, I had to go back after the hunt and manually remove the analog junk). The other inputs worked as expected. The remote control is not bad but it lacks a button to turn Closed Captions on/off (you need to navigate the menus to turn on/off, what a hassle). Picture quality is great, and the sound is what you expect for built in speakers (not great, but sufficient)
All of that said, I give this baby two thumbs up...

I purchased the 32LG40 last Sunday. I really wanted a HDTV/DVD combo, and this looked pretty good in the store. It shipped quick (Tuesday), but I didn't have time to set it up until Saturday. The picture is acceptable, but the sound can be buzzy and tinny on some cable stations. My big problem is with the DVD player. First, its pretty noisy. Second, it sends feedback through the TV speakers. It's loud enough to be distracting when watching a movie. I can't believe that it is supposed to operate like this. I contacted LG's service department and they told me to contact a local TV repair shop to see if it can be repaired under warranty. I hope it can be repaired, but I'm afraid I'm going to hear, "that's just the way it is".

I set this TV up for a friend and the factory settings are not all that great. I changed the settings to VIVID then turned off/low ALL the noise reduction, gamma, black, etc filters with color temp at warm. Sharpness down to 20. With those settings, WOW!!! I was blown away with the picture quality on blu-ray discs via PS3 (Layer Cake, 5th Element, TMNT). Absolutely gorgeous picture. Played Battlefield Bad Company and it was a crisp, sharp, clean, beautiful picture. Gaming looks great!!! If you are looking for a 32" set, this is THE ONE! Best 720P 32" out there. Never seen anything better for this price.

Okay, Big Deal on the number of HDMI Ports. 3 or 4, what does it matter. I bought a television first and foremost for the picture, then sound.
This LG has a great picture. Granted, its my first HDTV, but I could not be happier. I have compared it to some sets in bargain, mass "Mart" type chains and I can see a difference. 1080p in 32" is not commonplace yet, but it does make a difference. Fast motion sports and other similar types of viewing remain very fluid and no jagged edges appear.
The sound is above average, but I certainly do not expect it to sound like my home theatre system.
This TV is one that I would recommend to everyone.

I couldn't be happier with the new TV, which I bought 3 weeks ago. I was looking for a good value for my $$$. I looked at TV's at three different Best Buys and couldn't find much difference in picture quality. The same set would look good in one store, bad in another. Probably due to source video and settings. It came down to Panasonic and LG (comparable Sony too expensive, Samsung got to many bad reviews). LG has a swivel stand, Panasonic's is fixed. I liked this feature as the set will be in the corner of my living room. Thankfully my local Best Buy was sold out. When I got home Amazon had it at a better price so I took the plunge. I was nevous about buying a TV thru Amazon but the delivery truck showed up as scheduled and the guys set it up and took the box away. And I wanted to lug one home from Best Buy? I won't do that again.

LG does'nt get enough praise.
Just bought this TV for the sake of it being an IPS panel and for its apparent adjustability (and also 1080p). Plus this tv is so easy to calibrate; the 'picture wizard' is extremely helpful.
The amount of menu options is jaw-dropping, as is the style of the set. The LH40 model looks neat with the plastic square along the bottom of the panel, but I like the more minimalist look of the LH30, and I do not like the 120hz or the $100 price jump of the LH40.
I made a comparison to my sony 32M4000 (which I have now given to my father) and there are some interesting differences (many are polar opposites):
-The sound is far superior on the LG.
-Black levels are very close, sony's is a bit deeper and maintains black colors better at angles.
-The whiteness of whites is slightly better on the sony, but colors and mid tones definitely have more of a 'punchy' factor on the LG.
-Color is amazing; rich and saturated; best ive seen on any LCD, period.
-Color does not wash out at all from different angles, only very dark colors and black tend to become discolored (blue or red depending on the angle).
-Of course there are far, far fewer picture options on the sony.
-My sony has a ghosting problem with dark colors, not so on the LG; motion blur and lag is also reduced too.
-OTA HD channels look decent enough, not as sharp as the sony, but the better color makes up for it imo.
What was the main factor that made me get this LG?..its S-IPS panel.
Samsung is an excellent maker of lcds, but I steered clear of them this time, as buying a tv from them is like playing the lottery. They use 3 different panels with differing levels of color and contrast quality; you are not essentially getting what you pay for:
You may get Samsung's own S-PVA panel, the best quality (if you're lucky).
An A-MVA panel from Taiwan's AUO (a notch worse than S-PVA).
Chinese company Chi Mei's S-MVA panel (worst of the three).
Panasonics IPS Alpha panels are decent, but on some panels dark colors appear far too blue from different angles.
That narrows it down to LG's S-IPS panel; its color saturation, vividness, and response time are worth the slight sacrifice in contrast and black depth (at least in my opinion).
This tv is not perfect, however; I spotted 3 dead pixels right out of the box (2 bright, 1 dark), right around the middle of the screen. They are practically invisible without being a foot from the screen and looking hard for them, however.
Viewing angles demonstrate some darkening of the picture, but its not too bothersome (swivel stand helps).
No other flaws I can think of at the moment, I recommend this tv!
My calibration settings use color adjustments from cnet.com along with some of my own tweaks, try them out!Picture menu:

Sharp AQUOS LC32BD60U 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player Review

Sharp AQUOS LC32BD60U 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Received this 1080p LCD TV two days ago...this is an initial hands-on review. This is the first line of LCD TVs to contain a built-in Blu-ray DVD player. I needed this because of space limitations and for convenience. This TV extracts the highest resolution from Blu-ray DVDs for an exceptional picture. Conventional DVDs also produce an excellent picture and are upconverted from 480p. So far, I'm pleased. This TV will accept virtually all current video signals up to 1080p + PC input, making it as future proof as any current LCD TV. But there are some caveats.
1. TV Setup: TV is well packaged and protected. The Owners Manual is detailed and understandable. You must attach the base stand to the TV unless you intend to wall hang it. The black lacquer stand attaches easily using phillips screws and a screwdriver provided. All plastic protective coverings stayed on the TV and stand until final placement because black lacquer surfaces and LCD screens attract fingerprints and scratches. The base doesn't swivel or tilt. It is hefty and supports the TV very well.
2. Inputs abound: Seven inputs can handle most sources. They include three HDMI HDCP inputs, an Analog PC input, and various component/S-video/composite combos. Additionally, a USB input (called a Service Terminal) is provided for future firmware updates. I have an HD TiVo with HD Digital Cable service connected via HDMI. The TV and TiVo synched perfectly and the TV automatically labeled this input as TiVo...cool feature. Picture controls are adjustable for each input and maintain their settings.
3. Blu-ray Player (Profile 1.1, upgradeable): The DVD player forms a slight bulge on the rear right of the TV and is not obvious. It has a USB port for memory expansion and an ethernet port for future BD-Live capability. When a DVD is inserted into the loading slot, the TV switches to DVD input, reads the type disc and begins playing. Very easy to use! I tested two Blu-ray DVDs and two conventional DVDs without a hitch. Blu-ray DVDs took just under two minutes to load their data and play. Conventional DVDs took less than a minute. Commercial or homemade music CDs also work, however homemade MP-3 music disks will not play. The DVD player initially makes slight noises as the disk is loading. Once play starts it is silent. If there is a fan, it is very quiet. DVD functionality seems very well integrated into the electronics, remote control, and overall operation of this TV.
4. Limitations of the Blu-ray player: First, audio output to A/V receivers is bitstream via optical output in Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2-channel PCM. Analog 2-channel rca outputs are also provided. None of the next generation audio formats found on Blu-ray DVDs, i.e., Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, can be output. Second, if the player fails I must return the entire TV for service. Third, this is a profile 1.1 player. The owners manual indicates it will be upgradeable to profile 2.0 at a future date. If you can live with these limitations (which I can), then convenience, space savings, and ease of use make this a valuable addition.
5. Performance: Overall excellent picture with Standard and High Definition sources, after some adjustment. Sound is about average for this size TV. Bass and Treble, along with a Surround mode are adjustable. Blu-ray DVDs display exceptional video quality. HD Cable programs are pristine. Normal DVDs look very good. Sound is boosted slightly when playing DVDs and I perceived a very slight improvement in overall dynamics. Out of the box, after some adjustments, this TV exhibits a very slight red push...not a deal breaker. This means reds were somewhat over emphasized in all picture modes. Luckily, the Color Management System allows very detailed adjustment of each of six colors in Hue, Saturation, and Value (brightness). This is in addition to the normal contrast, tint, brightness, and color controls. Additionally, backlight is adjustable (from off to full on) as are video noise reduction controls. I'm sure with the help of my Avia test DVD and some experimenting, I'll be able to tweak the picture to my liking.
6. Summary: I'm very satisfied at this point. Factoring the price of a separate Blu-ray player into the price of a quality 1080p 32inch LCD TV makes this combo a reasonable alternative to separate components in my view. Limitations aside, the convenience of having a well integrated DVD player attached to a TV makes sense for many folks.

Average Reviews:

This base grade 2011 model does all that is expected at this price point and resolution. Very clear picture with just a hint of graying in the black areas. The 5.1 audio out is great for older style A/V receivers that don't handle HDMI input. One digital audio (toslink) cable from the tv handles all audio to the receiver that was input to the tv via HDMI. Easy set up but swivel base would have been nice. One piece of deceptive advertising is the PIP funtion. Only available if you are in PC mode. Don't expect to get PIP from two sources unless one is main screen PC. The matte screen handles reflected light well and the glare from the frame is bearable. Very little motion blurring at this screen size with 60hz response and back lit flourescent versus LED isn't worth the extra money. Good solid buy at this price.

This was very easy to set up and it works perfectly. I have a 42" LG 5400 the tv is so slim and the mount keeps it very close to the wall. I didn't think I needed a tilting mount but I'm glad I did its a perfect compliment to this tv. The only suggestion is that if you cannot hit the studs with all 8 screws buy some good drywall anchors, the anchors that come with the unit are for masonry walls not drywall.
