HP 2010i 20-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black Review

HP 2010i 20-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
Great Design, beautiful look
Cristal Clear Text and Image
Great Color richness
Great color accuracy
no eye strain
tilt adjusting
matte finish(I prefer matte to glossy)
Energy Star qualified (25W maximum)
100mm x 100mm screw-mount
Cons:
No height adjustment.
no HDMI
sub per speaker
Not very good vertical viewing angle
HP Ads is too sticky
Resolution:
For this size monitor, I think 1600*900 is the ideal size otherwise the text size (1920*1080) will appear too small.
Comparing to 2009m:
2009m is the 2009 model. it is not energy star efficient qualified. it is glossy finish. It does not have 100X100 mount. For 20$ more, I would go for 2010i.
Comparing to 2210m:
The 21.5' 2210m is 1920*1080 full HD with HDMI input and is gloss screen. First of all, 2210m is a great monitor if you like gloss screen and are used to relatively small character size. However, if I have extra cash and if I like glossy screen, I would go for a larger screen such as 2310m or 2509m since the character size is simply too small for me on 2210m than that on 2010i.
Comparing to ViewSonic's VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch
I was also able to compare it to ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED. First of all, I don't think led tech will add better display experience to a monitor but make it a lower power consumption and a lighter body. Considering the color richness and color accuracy, I would like to vote for 2010i because the color on VX2250WM-LED appears to me wash-out and a little weak. The built quality of 2010i is also better. But if you want a lighter display with a higher resolution at a reasonable price, you may want to go with VX2250WM-LED.
Comparing to Samsung 2333SW
I also own Samsung 2333SW. Even if it is full HD, the color is so weak comparing to HP 2010i. The most important thing is that I always feel eye strain on the Samsung 2333SW. I just feel so comfortable working on the HP monitor.
update (11/02/2010): Comparing to HP S2031
I made a dual setup using HP 2010i and HP S2031. I got the HP S2031 from HP for a huge discount. The HP 2010i has an overall better build quality than that of HP S2031. The display experience on two monitors are quite similar except that the text character on HP S2031 has a barely noticeable greenish cast. For under $100, I would go for HP S2031.
Character size:
The character size appears larger on this monitor than that on Samsung 2333Sw 23"(1920*1080) monitor and that on 2210m. You may like this if your eyesight is not as good as before. For 21.5" and 23" monitor, I have to adjust the text size to medium (125%) to feel all right. But on this, default 100% text size appears just perfect for me.
If you are looking for a budget monitor best used for online browsing, text editing, movie playing, and photo editing, this would be a great buy. Large screen or higher resolution is not always a better choice and it really depends on your needs. If I really want to get a full 1080P experience, I would watch the movie on my Samsung 46" HDTV. After comparing different brands and models, when I sit in front of my desk working on something, this is the most comfortable screen that I ever had. I just feel the crystal clarity at every second...
Buyer attention: removing sticker from top bezel of 2010i can be a pain since the glue residue is very strong as the other reviewers pointed out. I also observed that other HP 20** series monitors received many negative reviews only because of this. HP should take serious consideration on this. Here is a tip : "Removal of advertising sticker from top bezel of HP monitors at HP Support Forum": Check out comments section below.
About HP consumer monitor 2*** model:
Have been doing research on hp monitor for a while. I went to Costco to check also. Personally, I prefer the 'i' version to the 'm' version since I don't like the glossy finish. Even with the anti-glare coating, I still see things or myself clear on the screen. I feel eye strain too (the most important thing). I wish they had a bigger screen model. Unfortunately, they don't have the corresponding 2310i, 2510i, 2710i in US(only available in UK). They do have the 2310m, 2509m,2710m in US, but they are glossy finish. the only downside with the i version is there is no hdmi input.
Example
2509m
25 means 25"
09 means 2009 model
m indicates glossy finish

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the negative reviews on this camcorder. It's obvious they are not using it correctly. Granted, this item does not come with a great manual right off the bat, but the full manual is located online. Just google it.
A couple of things I've noticed people are forgetting to do before making a review on this product. There is a protective clear sticker on the actual lens. It's virtually invisible. You need to take this off before shooting this camcorder. Trial and error on my part. My first few videos looked like web cam footage only a little better. I was dismayed and thought I had crap in my hands. Then I took off the sticker and it made a world of difference. Talk about clarity!
On the side of the camcorder is a switch for macro, portrait, and landscape. I've found the landscape setting to be the most clear, while the macro setting does nicely on your close up shots. I have not had a need for the portrait setting just yet.
The image stabalizer works mostly, if you remember to turn it on. For some reason, for me when I shut down the camcorder and turn it back on, it doesn't stay on. So I have to manually turn it on each time. Not a big problem, and I plan on using a table tripod for many of my shots anyways.
Sound is loud enough and clear, and it'll do for now. Can't get it all for a hundred bucks, you know?
If you're on a budget, but you've got that creative bug inside you, you will really enjoy this product and if done correctly, can put together some real quality videos.

Hitachi P50A402 50-Inch 1080I Plasma HDTV Review

Hitachi P50A402 50-Inch 1080I Plasma HDTV
Average Reviews:

I purchased the television one week ago and was excited to experience the quality especially with my new BluRay dvd player. After installation it worked well, sharp colors and exceptional quality even with non HD cable channels. Unfortunately after just two days the system failed. Power would not come on as it developed an electrical fault. I tried having it exchanged but they were out of stock without reorder so it seems like this is an already or soon to be discontinued model. Changed to another brand and now awaiting exchange. If you decide to get one you are certain of excellent qualaity picture as long as it works.

LG 50PG30 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

LG 50PG30 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really nervous about making such a large purchase so I did alot of research before I made my choice. I will go point by point here. :)
Resolution:
I chose the 1080p because it was clearer than the 760p. I've heard people say that you can tell unless you're using BluRay and I disagree. I could definitely tell the difference, especially on text, and I am glad that I chose the 1080p.
This television has a 30:1 contrast ratio and that makes HUGE difference in viewing text and the color black. Televisions with a lower contrast ratio (including the LG 50PG20) looked grey and the colors sometimes bled.
The Glare:
I upgraded from a CRT television to this. This television has alot less glare than my old TV, so I don't know what all of the fuss is about. When my four lamps are on and my huge picture window is uncurtained, there is STILL less glare than my old TV. If I have company over, I close the curtains and turn off the largest lamp and it looks great. No glare at all. I don't know what all of the glare fuss is about.
Sound Quality:
The sound quality is adequate. It's about the same as other televisions I've seen, even the more expensive ones. The general consensus is that people who buy flat-screens should also buy a home theater system, which I'm planning to do next year. When I have alot of background noise during the day (my kids playing, phones ringing, hubby on the computer, cars going by) I have to turn it to about 75. (Their volume scale is 1-100.) When the house is quieter, 25 suffices. It works well and is fine for now.
Size:
The size is awesome and terrific!!! The closest seats are about five feet away and the farthest seats are eleven feet away and it looks great from any of those distances, at whatever angles. I love, love, love the size. It's like being at a movie theater without any crying kids. (Except my own.) Let me say it again. THE SIZE IS AWESOME!
Picture Quality:
I have cable and it looks fine. The HD channels look awesome. In both cases, (HD and digital channel) you can practically see the pores on the actors' faces. I purchased an upconverting DVD players so almost all of my DVDs look awesome as well. I do have a few that don't look so hot. I picked up Ghostbusters I and II for cheap at Wal-Mart and they both look grainy. However, I'm chalking that up to both films being produced in the early eighties and never having been remastered.
A note on this: You cannot just plug this is and let it go. I had to purchase a good HDMI cable (cost me about 100 bucks) to get the picture quality that I expect from a plasma. I originally had it hooked up with my old RCA cables and it looked okay. Once we got the HDMI hooked up, I was blown away and ecstatic, even with the picture on standard settings. UPDATE: Apparently, HDMI cables are all the same. If you pay $100 bucks for one, you're a chump like me, lol. But 'em cheap here on Amazon. My first set died and I got my second set of cables for less than $10 bucks, including shipping.
Price:
This television has an average price on it. There are televisions that cost less and ones that cost more. I really found this television to be the best value for my money, because it LOOKED like the expensive televisions without the higher price tag. It is a bit more than some of the lower-end versions, but I really feel like you get what you pay for, and this is awesome and totally worth it. However, the Amazon price on it now is about four hundred dollars more than I paid, so I would really price shop before I purchased.
The Remote:
I saw some bad reviews for the remote and I decided I didn't care because I could always purchase a universal remote later. Some reviewers said it was confusing and so I expected it to be confusing, but it wasn't. UPDATE: My kids recently broke the remote casing open and the remote is sturdy enough that my husband put it back together, and it still works great. I am very pleased with this remote.
It is a very straightforward remote. On top you have your sound and picture controls, then your arrow keys followed by your volume and channel keys (your favorites and mute button is in between the two) followed by your numbers. The volume and channel buttons are curved so your fingers can feel the difference between up and down without looking.
The addition of the sound and picture controls make it a LONG remote and I couldn't reach all of the controls with my hand on the middle, My husband can but I can't. However, it is very light and slim so moving my hand to different sections was not a problem and doesn't even require looking at it.
Shipping:
This item was very well packed by LG and arrived without a scratch or a dead pixel. It was awesome. I had heard some horror stories so I was a bit worried. In the end, I was more than satisfied with the condition it arrived in.
The Verdict:
This television is the best value for the money and I am so glad that I purchased it. It impresses me every time I see it and I have had it for over a month. Yay!
UPDATE: I have now had it for more than four months and I am still ecstatic with it. The picture is still great and I am STILL impressed by it's size. :)
UPDATE: It's January so it's been almost a year and this TV is still impressive and awesome, although it's been discontinued. :P Still, my recommendation for the specs stands.
UPDATE: It's February 2011, so almost two years and this TV is still impressing the heck out of my friends. It's gorgeous and I love it.

Sharp AQUOS LC40D78UN 40-Inch 1080p LCD TV Review

Sharp AQUOS LC40D78UN 40-Inch 1080p LCD TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own this 40" 78 series Sharp Aquos TV. First said, The picture quality is outstanding, and can be tweaked to an infinite level with all the in depth menu settings. The speakers are on the bottom and fire downward. I find the sound to be very good on all inputs EXCEPT for TV where you are pulling your signal thru a coax cable. For whatever reason sound level is way down on that input. But on HDMI, component, etc sound level is strong and actually sounds pretty good. But to note, this weak sound on the TV input seems to be the norm, as I have noticed that effect on my other non Sharp flat screen TVs as well. I have my Sharp TV sitting in an entertainment center, so that serves as an amplifing box and pushes the sounds out in a good strong level. One GREAT thing about this (and most Sharp TVs) is that they have the RCA audio output jacks that can be connected to the older style receivers that do not have the optical input.
I just plug my red/white audio cable jacks from the TV to the matching input jacks on my receiver and like magic, there is great sound being delivered through my stereo system. You don't even have to turn the TV's speakers off, as the output jacks carry the signal along with the TV's internal speakers. You can turn the TV speaker volume down to zero without effecting the stereo's sound level, or you can turn the TV's speaker volume up slightly and get a really cool surround type effect.
All in all I love this TV and it's quality features. Sharp is one of the leading LCD screen manufacturers in the world, and they usually lead the industry in quality and innovation (Such as the Sharp Quattron screen with the extra "yellow" pixel.)
Sharp has always made great electronics. I currenty have a 30 year old Sharp 13" TV (with remote control) set up in our kitchen and it still performs as well today as it did 30 years ago when it was new.

Sharp AQUOS LC32BD60U 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player Review

Sharp AQUOS LC32BD60U 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Built-In Blu-ray Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Received this 1080p LCD TV two days ago...this is an initial hands-on review. This is the first line of LCD TVs to contain a built-in Blu-ray DVD player. I needed this because of space limitations and for convenience. This TV extracts the highest resolution from Blu-ray DVDs for an exceptional picture. Conventional DVDs also produce an excellent picture and are upconverted from 480p. So far, I'm pleased. This TV will accept virtually all current video signals up to 1080p + PC input, making it as future proof as any current LCD TV. But there are some caveats.
1. TV Setup: TV is well packaged and protected. The Owners Manual is detailed and understandable. You must attach the base stand to the TV unless you intend to wall hang it. The black lacquer stand attaches easily using phillips screws and a screwdriver provided. All plastic protective coverings stayed on the TV and stand until final placement because black lacquer surfaces and LCD screens attract fingerprints and scratches. The base doesn't swivel or tilt. It is hefty and supports the TV very well.
2. Inputs abound: Seven inputs can handle most sources. They include three HDMI HDCP inputs, an Analog PC input, and various component/S-video/composite combos. Additionally, a USB input (called a Service Terminal) is provided for future firmware updates. I have an HD TiVo with HD Digital Cable service connected via HDMI. The TV and TiVo synched perfectly and the TV automatically labeled this input as TiVo...cool feature. Picture controls are adjustable for each input and maintain their settings.
3. Blu-ray Player (Profile 1.1, upgradeable): The DVD player forms a slight bulge on the rear right of the TV and is not obvious. It has a USB port for memory expansion and an ethernet port for future BD-Live capability. When a DVD is inserted into the loading slot, the TV switches to DVD input, reads the type disc and begins playing. Very easy to use! I tested two Blu-ray DVDs and two conventional DVDs without a hitch. Blu-ray DVDs took just under two minutes to load their data and play. Conventional DVDs took less than a minute. Commercial or homemade music CDs also work, however homemade MP-3 music disks will not play. The DVD player initially makes slight noises as the disk is loading. Once play starts it is silent. If there is a fan, it is very quiet. DVD functionality seems very well integrated into the electronics, remote control, and overall operation of this TV.
4. Limitations of the Blu-ray player: First, audio output to A/V receivers is bitstream via optical output in Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2-channel PCM. Analog 2-channel rca outputs are also provided. None of the next generation audio formats found on Blu-ray DVDs, i.e., Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, can be output. Second, if the player fails I must return the entire TV for service. Third, this is a profile 1.1 player. The owners manual indicates it will be upgradeable to profile 2.0 at a future date. If you can live with these limitations (which I can), then convenience, space savings, and ease of use make this a valuable addition.
5. Performance: Overall excellent picture with Standard and High Definition sources, after some adjustment. Sound is about average for this size TV. Bass and Treble, along with a Surround mode are adjustable. Blu-ray DVDs display exceptional video quality. HD Cable programs are pristine. Normal DVDs look very good. Sound is boosted slightly when playing DVDs and I perceived a very slight improvement in overall dynamics. Out of the box, after some adjustments, this TV exhibits a very slight red push...not a deal breaker. This means reds were somewhat over emphasized in all picture modes. Luckily, the Color Management System allows very detailed adjustment of each of six colors in Hue, Saturation, and Value (brightness). This is in addition to the normal contrast, tint, brightness, and color controls. Additionally, backlight is adjustable (from off to full on) as are video noise reduction controls. I'm sure with the help of my Avia test DVD and some experimenting, I'll be able to tweak the picture to my liking.
6. Summary: I'm very satisfied at this point. Factoring the price of a separate Blu-ray player into the price of a quality 1080p 32inch LCD TV makes this combo a reasonable alternative to separate components in my view. Limitations aside, the convenience of having a well integrated DVD player attached to a TV makes sense for many folks.
