HP W2338H 23-Inch Widescreen Monitor Review

HP W2338H 23-Inch Widescreen Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would have gave it five stars but read why I didn't below.
Great color, nice and bright display, well made. I traded in my dual 19" monitor set-up and I am very happy.
Pros:
built-in speakers (when you don't need to listen to music at a loud volume)
true high definition
hdmi port
stand allows you to place your keyboard on it to clear up desk space
power button and power indicator on top so it doesn't annoy you
swivels and pivots
Cons:
only has vga and hdmi ports, no dvi
only came with the vga cord, no hdmi (Acer comes with all three)
lousy one-year warrantyI like it. The only comparable in size and cost is the Acer Computer X233H BD 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor. It's got a three-year warranty and vga, hdmi, and a dvi ports. Also comes with all three cables.
I have not compared the two next to each other. If the graphics look as good on the Acer, I'm going to return this HP and get the Acer since it has more ports for better adaptability, more cords so you don't have to spend any money, and a three-year warranty for peace of mind. Also, the Acer has 40000 to 1 contrast ratio vs the HP's 30000 to 1 contrast ratio.
I will update when I get to review the Acer.
Updated on May 11th, 2009:
Well I checked out the Acer X233H and though it is more flexible and have more bang for the buck, this is definitely a nicer monitor performance wise. First of all, the Acer has a flat picture. Less glare but the picture and graphics of the HP really come out at you. They are sharper and crisper than the Acer.
I really like the location of the power button on the HP because it is on top and not in front starting at you as a distraction if you are using the monitor at little to low light. I have a very nice back-lit Logitech keyboard and when I type in little to no light, there is no glaring power indicator in front of me.
I also think that the stand of the Acer is really weak and though it looks good, is not multi-functional like the HP, where you can store the keyboard, freeing up your desk when you need to use your desk.
With that said, I am keeping my HP and not getting the Acer.

HP 2710m 27-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black Review

HP 2710m 27-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to use a large monitor for my computer and initially purchased a Panasonic TC-L32S1 32 inch IPS lcd tv for this purpose based on recommendations out on the web. That TV was way to large to properly read documents and browse the web, no matter how fun it might have been to use for games. The pixel pitch is very important and sitting at a distance of 3 feet from a 32 inch tv does not work, as the pixels seem way to big. I wanted to find a better option that was a little smaller and this 27 inch monitor seems to be the perfect size. I sit about 2 feet away from it and even though it is considerably smaller than the 32 inch tv, it still feels MUCH larger than the 23 inch samsung monitor I also own.
I've been using this monitor for a week now and have noticed the following:
The native resolution is NOT too small for this size of screen. Some people complain that 1920 x 1080 is too little of a resolution for anything over a 23/24 inch monitor. I also use a laptop with a 17 inch screen with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and text on it can seem very small due to the small pixel pitch. After using this 27 inch monitor with a much larger pixel pitch, I can tell you that if you sit at normal distance from this monitor, you will not "notice each pixel" because of their larger size. Text looks large and sharp, but not lacking in detail. Of course, if you get very close to the screen you can see each pixel, but the monitor is meant to sit 2 feet away from you or more. At this distance, the resolution of 1920 x 1080 is more than enough for this size of a monitor.
The glossy screen finish on the monitor makes colors pop a lot, but might bother you if you have windows or lights behind you. I wanted a glossy screen monitor because I have no issue with the reflections of a glossy screen and prefer the pop that glossy screens give to colors. Direct sun light hitting the screen from the side is not much of an issue, as the anti-glare properties work pretty well. However, the screen can still be very reflective of things behind you. The brightness setting on the monitor should be set to half of the default setting, which is blindingly bright out of the box.
Response times on the monitor aren't the best I've experienced (even though listed at 2.5 ms) but are still decent. The low response times can only be achieved by turning on the "Video Overdrive" option, which is turned off by default. I have it on and did notice the motion blur decrease slightly on some motion tests. It is good enough to play games such as first person shooters, but its not the best performer I've seen in this department.
The black level produced by the monitor is not very dark, but the perceived contrast caused by the pop of the colors makes it a very pleasing image. The brightness setting on the monitor seems to only change the strength of the backlight instead of the brightness of the picture, so no matter what brightness setting you use, the black level stays pretty consistent.
The dynamic contrast ratio setting works very well compared to other TV's and monitors I've owned. It is very slow and gradual in adjusting the backlight depending on the scene instead of quickly changing like older tv's do. This makes it a much more seaming-less transition, much like your eye would behave when going from a very bright place to a darker place. I had it turned on for a little while, but decided to leave it off permanently because the monitor goes back to its blindingly bright backlight setting on bright scenes and it hurts the eyes at night time.
Like other monitors, it has pre-exisinting "Text" and "Movie" settings. These seem to just modify the brightness and contrast settings. I decided to leave mine at "Custom" and use the brightness at 50 and the contrast at 80. Setting the constrast any higher will cause white crush (not showing all the details of the brightest range of colors like white).
The color settings allow you to change between 9300k, 6500k, and sRGB. 9300k seemed way to blue, sRGB seemed a little too red and 6500k seemed the most pleasing. I'm unable properly test for the gamma accuracy, but with the Avia calibration tool, there seemed to be very little difference in the gamma/color accuracy of sRGB and 6500k settings.
You can also adjust the Red, Green, and Blue colors individually for better color accuracy. However, like other monitors, there is no Hue or Color Saturation setting to help you do this easierly (with less accuracy).
The viewing angles for the monitor are limited just like any other TN panel. If you sit in front of the monitor, you won't have an issue with the viewing angles. If you plan to have people using it to watch it from steep angles, you should get a different monitor, as the colors will change a lot if viewed from anywhere besides the center position.
In summary:
Great for:
-Great Pop of colors due to glossy screen
-Good size and easy to read text from at a regular distance
-Decent response times for games with Video Overdrive turned on
-Decent black levels due to the contrast caused by bright colors and glossy screen.
-Sturdy and attractive design (monitor does not wobble much on its stand like other big monitors of this size usually do)
Cons:
-Black levels cannot be adjusted very much and stay pretty much the same because the brightness setting is just the backlight strength.
-Limited viewing angle for accurate colors due to TN panel
-Turning the dynamic contrast setting on leads to the monitor using blindingly bright settings in some scenes.
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and recommend this monitor to anyone who is not bothered by regular TN panel viewing angles and want a good pop of color from their monitor. The color reproduction might not be as accurate as an IPS panel, but they are darn pretty and POP much more than any IPS panel I've ever worked with.

ViewSonic VP2655WB 26-Inch Wide IPS panel LCD Monitor Review

ViewSonic VP2655WB 26-Inch Wide IPS panel LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

I bought this after reading other reviews here and it fully lived up to my expectations.
Only concern is that it only has two inputs, one digital and one analogue.
If you're cool with that and want a monitor that far exceeds the quality and viewing angle of low-priced monitors while not going stratospheric, buy this one.

HP 2010i 20-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black Review

HP 2010i 20-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
Great Design, beautiful look
Cristal Clear Text and Image
Great Color richness
Great color accuracy
no eye strain
tilt adjusting
matte finish(I prefer matte to glossy)
Energy Star qualified (25W maximum)
100mm x 100mm screw-mount
Cons:
No height adjustment.
no HDMI
sub per speaker
Not very good vertical viewing angle
HP Ads is too sticky
Resolution:
For this size monitor, I think 1600*900 is the ideal size otherwise the text size (1920*1080) will appear too small.
Comparing to 2009m:
2009m is the 2009 model. it is not energy star efficient qualified. it is glossy finish. It does not have 100X100 mount. For 20$ more, I would go for 2010i.
Comparing to 2210m:
The 21.5' 2210m is 1920*1080 full HD with HDMI input and is gloss screen. First of all, 2210m is a great monitor if you like gloss screen and are used to relatively small character size. However, if I have extra cash and if I like glossy screen, I would go for a larger screen such as 2310m or 2509m since the character size is simply too small for me on 2210m than that on 2010i.
Comparing to ViewSonic's VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch
I was also able to compare it to ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED. First of all, I don't think led tech will add better display experience to a monitor but make it a lower power consumption and a lighter body. Considering the color richness and color accuracy, I would like to vote for 2010i because the color on VX2250WM-LED appears to me wash-out and a little weak. The built quality of 2010i is also better. But if you want a lighter display with a higher resolution at a reasonable price, you may want to go with VX2250WM-LED.
Comparing to Samsung 2333SW
I also own Samsung 2333SW. Even if it is full HD, the color is so weak comparing to HP 2010i. The most important thing is that I always feel eye strain on the Samsung 2333SW. I just feel so comfortable working on the HP monitor.
update (11/02/2010): Comparing to HP S2031
I made a dual setup using HP 2010i and HP S2031. I got the HP S2031 from HP for a huge discount. The HP 2010i has an overall better build quality than that of HP S2031. The display experience on two monitors are quite similar except that the text character on HP S2031 has a barely noticeable greenish cast. For under $100, I would go for HP S2031.
Character size:
The character size appears larger on this monitor than that on Samsung 2333Sw 23"(1920*1080) monitor and that on 2210m. You may like this if your eyesight is not as good as before. For 21.5" and 23" monitor, I have to adjust the text size to medium (125%) to feel all right. But on this, default 100% text size appears just perfect for me.
If you are looking for a budget monitor best used for online browsing, text editing, movie playing, and photo editing, this would be a great buy. Large screen or higher resolution is not always a better choice and it really depends on your needs. If I really want to get a full 1080P experience, I would watch the movie on my Samsung 46" HDTV. After comparing different brands and models, when I sit in front of my desk working on something, this is the most comfortable screen that I ever had. I just feel the crystal clarity at every second...
Buyer attention: removing sticker from top bezel of 2010i can be a pain since the glue residue is very strong as the other reviewers pointed out. I also observed that other HP 20** series monitors received many negative reviews only because of this. HP should take serious consideration on this. Here is a tip : "Removal of advertising sticker from top bezel of HP monitors at HP Support Forum": Check out comments section below.
About HP consumer monitor 2*** model:
Have been doing research on hp monitor for a while. I went to Costco to check also. Personally, I prefer the 'i' version to the 'm' version since I don't like the glossy finish. Even with the anti-glare coating, I still see things or myself clear on the screen. I feel eye strain too (the most important thing). I wish they had a bigger screen model. Unfortunately, they don't have the corresponding 2310i, 2510i, 2710i in US(only available in UK). They do have the 2310m, 2509m,2710m in US, but they are glossy finish. the only downside with the i version is there is no hdmi input.
Example
2509m
25 means 25"
09 means 2009 model
m indicates glossy finish

LG L246WP-BN 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

LG L246WP-BN 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I suddenly found myself in need of a monitor with more inputs so I purchased this one. The HDMI input is particularly well done: there's a standard headphone jack on the left edge (next to the two USB ports) for listening to HDMI audio. I tested this with my AT&T U-verse DVR's HDMI output successfully. I imagine that the HDMI audio feature of the new ATI 2xxx-series video cards will work too. LG includes a HDMI-to-DVI monitor cable and a VGA cable. Should you need a HDMI-to-HDMI cable you'll have to purchase it separately. I bought a Monoprice 4-port HDMI switch and assorted cables to let me share this monitor between my DVR and PCs, an arrangement that works reasonably well. I have the component input hooked up to the DVR as well so I can watch TV using the monitor's PiP feature, though I've yet to use that much.
There are two tweaks that you may need to make. The default colors were way too dark from my PC, which I corrected by setting Picture | CSM to sRGB. That let me turn down brightness to a much more comfortable level. To view HDTV video without the picture being stretched vertically, set Screen | ARC to 1:1 instead of Full.
I'm very happy with this monitor. If you need a do-everything 24" monitor, buy this one.

Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor Review

Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, great customer service from amazon.com. Ordered the unit on June 4, received it on June 6!
Pros: Easy setup and hookup. Be sure to use the DVI-I cable hookups. That's because digital input is so much better than analog. Plus, you don't mess with the buttons on the bottom right corner, except for the ON/OFF button on the far right. All your settings are configured through the video card's software interface. Download the newest driver from the Samsung website, install, and you ready to go.
Cons: DO NOT INSTALL MagicColor! It's a waste of time and conflicts with Nvidia Control Panel which causes computer lockup in some instances. (At least it did with me.) You have virtually the same settings in the Nvidia Control Panel interface. plus the panel seems a little more intuitive.
The previous reviewer did an analog setup, when every video card on the market today comes with a DVI output jack, plus just about every LCD monitor has an input jack. It just doesn't make any sense to go analog. Plus Samsung includes both cables! DVI is the only way to Fly!
Additonal Notes: Nice finsh with the piano glossy black color. The base is somewhat adjustable, but a little wobbly. I ordered the Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD desk stand to go with this monitor's VESA mount. A lot more adjustabiliity including height, much heavier weight, and it is able to rotate the entire monitor for text work.
All in all, a good spend of my money and the free shipping is always a bonus. I chose Amazon over Newegg also, since I would get free shipping on all the products I bought.

HP W2207H 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

HP W2207H 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As others have written, the visuals on this monitor are excellent, the sound is on the tinny side. I'm writing to cover new ground. I purchased this monitor from Amazon on May 21. It worked well for a week or so, then came the problems. The screen would go black when it was powered up. Unplugging worked for a while, but eventually the monitor went all white. To make a long story short, we called HP and the tech figured it was a bad pixel. In the chain of interviews one woman tech agreed when asked, that they would send a new, not refurbished monitor. When a refurbished monitor arrived, I connected to an HP supervisor and found the full story. When you purchase from an authorized dealer (Amazon is not) there can be a store warranty (eg 30 days, 15 days, whatever the store chooses). If I had purchased from such a dealer, and was over the store warranty a few days, the HP supervisor could have (at their discretion) sent me a new, not refurbished monitor. As it was, HP sent the refurbished model under a manufacturer's warranty. The HP warranty allows them to send a a new or refurbished replacement. It appears to be random, odds are it will be refurbished. This one year warranty on the model purchased from Amazon began not on the May purchase date, rather it is from the January 2008 manufacture date. If I had returned this monitor to Amazon, I would be subject to a 15% restocking fee. Welcome to a rock and a hard place. Failures like this are likely rare, but it leaves us with a refurbished model instead of the new one I paid for. Buyer beware.

(More customer reviews)
My girlfriend and I bought 2 of these monitors with our new computer purchase back in May. Here we are 3 months later and I'm still L O V I N G them! I have 2 of them to run on dual display mode and can't stand looking at anything else. The colors are crisp, the viewing angle is just awesome, and I can't say enough great things about owning these displays. The only minor draw back is the stands that come with them. I opted to purchase a monitor stand and tried to remove the sections that click into the lcd itself. Well, I've been tugging, wiggling, and fighting with this small peice of plastic for 3 or 4 days to no avail! I tried finding how to remove stand in the instructions and came up with nothing. I logged onto samsung.com and chatted with a Tech who had no idea how to help me. So I'm stuck with the monitors free floating in air having part of the base still attached.
With all of that aside, the rest of the monitor receives a definite 5 stars, hands down. It's only the base that shortens the rating to 4 stars.

Samsung LN40A500 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Samsung LN40A500 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this TV online at [...] on Thanksgiving day for $799 on the early Black Friday sale. Forget the lines!
This TV has been great so far. Watched Wall-E in HD the other day, and was blown away! I matched this with the Samsung HT-Z310T 5.1-Channel Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) and the AnyNet feature is a real perk. Only needing one remote, and having the input source switch on its own when I put in a dvd or switch to TV is extremely convenient.
The only con I would mention is that when there are dark scenes, or letterboxing, I have noticed a bit of backlight bleed from the top corners. But I have a service call in to Samsung about that, and they are actually replacing my whole display panel (which will take care of the ONE dead pixel too). They are doing this in-home, so I won't even have to lug this down from my 3rd floor apartment.
Overall, this TV is outstanding, and the only reason to get the 530 or 550 is if you NEED 3 HDMI's instead of 2, or if you REALLY think you can tell a difference between 20,000:1 and 30,000:1 contrast. I tried, and I can't. Thanks for reading.

Adjustable Tilting SINGLE Desk Mount Bracket for LCD(Max 33Lbs, 10~23inch)- Black Review

Adjustable Tilting SINGLE Desk Mount Bracket for LCD(Max 33Lbs, 10~23inch)- Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The monitor stand is very sturdy and the pole is more than tall enough for my 23" eMachines E230H monitor in portrait. With 5" of clearance during rotation, this could take a larger monitor. The base is a flat piece of steel that needs a very flat surface. I will be adding some stick-on felt feet (like these or larger Waxman 7284 Self-Stick Round Felt Pads, Brown, 1-Inch) so I don't scratch the desk surface.
Mine came with 4 sets of screws for mounting, 4 each of M4 and M5, both in 10 MM and 14 MM (total of 16). So if you need M5s instead of M4s, or extra long screws like I did, you are covered.
Does it rotate as easily and feel as solid as the older $160 Kensington unit I have at work? Solid: Yes (once you tighten the head). Rotate as easily: No. This unit has one ball joint handling both the tilt and rotation, instead of a separate bearing for rotation. I end up re-tilting after rotating. But at this price, I'll work with it until it. :)

Neoflex LCD Stand, Black Review

Neoflex LCD Stand, Black

This stand replaced the stock non-height adjustable stand on my Acer X243w (24" LCD). Despite being spec'd on the manufacturers site for 22" displays or less, this stand seems to easily handle 24" or larger ones with ease. There is zero wobble. The base rotates (like a lazy-susan), the screen can be raised or lowered with one finger, and the display can be tilted or rotated. Assembly was super easy. I am very happy with this purchase.
